Mat-Su Animal Care and Regulation has a variety of animals for adoption. Don't be discouraged if you do not find the right pet for you the first time you visit the shelter as we receive new animals every day. When you visit the shelter you may see information about each animal on their kennel. This information comes from their former owners (if the animal was surrendered) and from day-to-day interactions with volunteers and staff. This information is provided to help you select the right animal for your lifestyle.

Our shelter does currently have an adoption application process. We try to work with you to help you find the right pet for your family. All adoptions are first-come, first-serve.



  • Adoption fees include:

    • Appropriate vaccinations including rabies

    • Lifetime licensing

    • Microchip

    • Spay/neuter surgery

    • Feline leukemia testing for kittens

Adult Cats: $27​

Kittens: $127

Dogs: $145

How do pets come to us?
  • Stray animals rescued by an animal control officer or citizen and not claimed by their family.

  • Animals surrendered by their family.

What can we tell you about our adoptable animals:
  • If the animal was surrendered by its family, we obtain as much information as possible about their behavior.

  • If the animals were a stray we rely on information from our volunteers and staff as they interact with the animal on a daily basis.

  • All animals are treated by our veterinarian with the best care possible


If you adopt from us:

  • All dogs and cats must be spayed or neutered and microchipped.

  • Dogs and cats will have received appropriate vaccinations.

  • Dogs and cats will receive a lifetime Mat-su Borough license.
